Developed in the 1990s for optical telecommunication, fiber lasers offer today an alternative to solid-state lasers (Nd: YAG) and CO2 lasers used for material processing.
The fiber laser is composed of :
- Silica-doped fiber excited by a laser diode
- Two distributed Bragg reflectors in the fiber used as mirrors of a "normal" laser cavity.
